You could use it with todos as well or for errands or anything that would benefit from having a checklist. Travel checklists (Weekend trip, one week trip, things to do to the house when taking off for a month, etc) Seasonal Lists like Spring Cleaning (shared) and the app would ask me if I want to add "Egg Whites (12 oz)" like I did the previous week. For example, when I am adding items to the grocery list I would type Egg. The app stores all the info from checked off items and it autocompletes based on what you've already put in. You can also pick which lists to share or not. You could try to replicate some features with Apple Note, but I find the fact that you can store recipes, schedule meals and track full meal plans with it to be a killer feature. I use it to share lists with my wife, and it works great. Using a project management tool like that it's a bit of an overkill when dealing at home, so I've been using Anylist for a couple years and couldn't be happier with it. In practice, most of the places where I've worked use something like Asana or so there is already a shared to do list.
I know a lot of folks complain that Things doesn't let you share todo lists or projects with other people. I've been using Things for a number of years and it works great for personal, work and hobbies.
